Summer Sendoff 🌞✨ Add These Items to your End-of-Summer Bucket List

While summers are short, they sure are sweet! Here in Maine, we like to hold onto every single second of summer and warm weather. To help you take advantage of the rest of this season that we love and adore, here’s a list to add to your end of summer bucket list.

Go For a Waterfall Hike

One of our favorite things about Maine is spending time outdoors. Lace up your hiking boots, pack your water bottle and plenty of snacks and add these hikes to your list.

  • Gulf Hagas | Bowdoin College Grant East Township

This hike is known as the Grand Canyon of Maine. It’s a 1.3 mile walk on the Appalachian Trail.

  • Steep Falls | Newry

This hike is a quick trot through the woods and has some incredible views of Maine’s falls, cascades, and slides. You can splash around in the small sections or enjoy the sun on the dry parts of the granite.

  • Jewell Falls | Portland

Looking to keep things local? We love how close Jewell Falls is! It’s less than half a mile of trail and is super easy for beginner hikers. A wooden footbridge crosses the top of the falls for some stunning views.

Soak up the Sun at the Beach

Is there anything better than a post class beach day? Grab a towel, beach chair, your favorite book and beverage and soak up the summer sun at some of our favorite beaches. Here’s a list of what we are loving:

  • Crescent Beach State Park - Located in Cape Elizabeth, this one mile sandy beach is perfect for a morning or evening walk or sunbathing and swimming. After your beach day stop at Two Lights Lobster Shack for some seafood or a delicious dessert.

  • Willard Beach - Located in South Portland, this sandy and pebble scattered beach is nestled next to a residential neighborhood and University of Southern Maine Community College. There are plenty of spots to set up your chair and go for a stroll.

  • Wells Harbor Beach - Located in Wells, the sandy beach offers free parking, a pavilion to cool off in the shade and kayak rentals to enjoy the calmer waters.

Take a Ferry to Peaks Island

Peaks Island is a 740 acre Island located off of the Portland Peninsula, and is just a quick 17 minute ride! While you’re there, bring your bike or rent one and take a nice 3 mile ride along the paths or rent a golf cart for a more relaxed cruise. While you’re there stop by Il Leone, a wood fired pizza joint cooking up some delicious options for you before heading back home on the Ferry. Looking for a longer cruise out on the water? Try the Mailboat Run! It’s true local experience dropping off mail to 5 islands.

Watch a Sea Dogs Game at Hadlock Field

If you haven’t made it to a game yet, you have until mid September to do so! Find a game that fits your schedule (we suggest booking one after an evening spin class!) Grab a beer, a hot dog or a Sea Dogs Biscuit and enjoy!
